Maple and Walnut Cake





I made this (admittedly slightly messy!) Maple and Walnut cake a couple of weeks ago, from a Hummingbird Bakery recipe!

It was originally supposed to be a Maple and Pecan cake, however I had a few ingredients I wanted to use up rather than buying any more. So, instead of maple syrup I used equal amounts of golden syrup and black treacle, and used walnuts rather than pecan. I didn't change any amounts, and the substituted ingredients still resulted in a great cake! Topped with a classic buttercream.
